SUMMARY:6th Annual Tenkara Summit Hosted By Tenkara USA
DESCRIPTION:Wow\, another tenkara season is passing quickly in Colorado. And I am super excited to share the news of a major event hosted by Tenkara USA in Colorado. The 6th Annual Tenkara Summit is returning to Estes Park\, Colorado September 16\, 2017. \nThe 6th Annual Tenkara Summit\nEach year Tenkara USA tries to find an amazing location for people to experience tenkara. In 2015 the Tenkara Summit was held at the YMCA of the Rockies just outside of Estes Park\, Colorado and within a very short distance of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). \nThe Tenkara Summit is a gathering of the tenkara community with the purpose of sharing knowledge about tenkara and for the community to meet and fish together. The Summit is a great opportunity to visit and fish in Rocky Mountain National Park. \nEvery year the Tenkara Summit continues to grow both in attendance and in the number of amazing presentations. This year’s Summit is shaping up to be even more amazing than the last. The schedule for Saturday\, September 16 is a day to not be missed. \nSchedule\nSaturday\n9am – 12 pm: Presentations by Dr. Ishigaki\, Yvon Chouinard and more…\n12pm – 3 pm: Lunch (included in registration cost\, 3 food trucks will be available)\, fly-tying with Tenkara Grasshopper and Mark Bolson\, rigging and casting clinics\, and vendors\n3pm -5:00pm: Presentations\n5:00-7:00pm: go find some fish/relax with some new or old friends\n7pm – 10pm: Tenkara social/fly-tying gathering\, location to be determined \nSunday\nSunday is the day to experience tenkara in all of its glory! Take some time to get out with everyone you met on Saturday. \nPresentations\n30-45 minute presentations including the following speakers:\nDr. Hisao Ishigaki the consumat tenkara sensei will be coming from Japan especially for this event!\nYvon Chouinard\, the founder of Patagonia\, will talk about his approach to tenkara and conservation.\nDaniel Galhardo\, Tenkara USA founder will be signing books and doing a short talk about tenkara.\nJason Klass will be presenting on tenkara techniques.\nAdam Trahan will be speaking about Accuracy Casting to improve Tenkara Catch Rate.\nMatt Sment will cover some tips for tenkara fishing.\nSteve Schweitzer on fishing the local waters\, also with his guide books to Rocky Mountain National Park and Indian Peaks Wilderness. \nVendors\nThere will be a small vendor area that will be open to the Summit attendees. If you are completely new to tenkara the folks from Tenkara USA will have some product for purchase. (See the Must Haves below.) To remember this amazing event you will be able to purchase some awesome event swag to take home with you. Wandering the vendor area is always fun and can be a great way to meet some amazing people. \nFood\nAs part of your admission to the 6th Annual Tenkara Summit lunch on Saturday is included. For the first time in the history of the Tenkara Summit there will be 3 local food trucks to choose from. I (Tenkara Grasshopper) have tried all the food from all 3 trucks and I can say my mouth is watering just thinking about it. \nThe trucks to get your grub from are: \nBarbecue by:Southern Guys’ Smokehouse\nWood-fired pizza by: TJ’s Wood-Fired Mobile Pizza\nLobster rolls by: Mile High Lobster Shack \nAlso the organizers have included a number of suggestions on the Tenkara USA event page. \nTenkara Summit Must Haves\nYou will need a few things to have a successful and fun time at the 6th Annual Tenkara Summit. Below is the short list to have with you. \n\nColorado fishing license – No license no fishing. Game wardens in RMNP and outside don’t mess around\, get your Colorado fishing license here\nTenkara fishing gear (Tenkara USA  will have some available for sale\, but recommend getting a rod ahead of time here to ensure availability).\nPolarized sunglasses – You can see the fish better and at higher altitudes the sunlight is more intense than at lower altitudes.\nSPF30+ Sunscreen – Like I said above\, the sun is stronger at altitude\, therefore you are likely to burn without sunscreen.\nSun Protection: Hat. Buff\, etc. If you don’t have either\, get one at the Tenkara USA booth.\nWater Bottle: Staying hydrated is essential! You’ll find that you need to drink a lot more water than normal at higher altitudes.\nLayers: Windbreaker\, Fleece\, etc. – weather is super nice at this time of year\, but it will be cool in the evenings and temperature could be low during the day too.
