TenkaraGrasshopper and the “Squirell Factor”by Graham Moran November 10, 2014 0 comments
As the weather cools down and the world starts to look more towards the home and family with the holidays just around the corner, there seems to be more time for introspection that occurs at the same time. I have been seeing this going on with many of my friends as well as a number of the amazing tenkara blogs that are currently running at this time.
With a wonderful wife and beautiful baby boy that are both the number one things in my life on any given day I have been spending a large amount of time thinking of what a wonderful time in life this is for me. I look at how quickly my son blossoms each day learning new things that he can do and also how happy he is. (Well most of time, except for when he has a dirty diaper, is hungry, and God forbid, exhausted! Wait a minute, he isn’t supposed to be exhausted, that’s mommy and daddy!)
Because of these two diamonds in my life I have given up some time that could have been used to update the TenkaraGrasshopper.com site. But as the cold weather sets in I have found some time to get back into writing and contemplating the world of tenkara and all the amazing changes that are currently occurring right now. With the colder weather I am going to be working on a number of new posts and features here on TenkaraGrasshopper.com for your enjoyment as long as my mind doesn’t run away from me. Man, I am hungry, I should probably eat something before I go to work today!
A few of the features that you will see soon include the expansion of Olive the Woolly Bugger Goes Tenkara Fishing. Recently, I also added the Live Tenkara Chat page to the site. Now if you wish you can talk live in a group setting with other tenkara anglers from around the world simply by creating a user name, no memberships or passwords required. The Live Tenkara Chat is still in its infancy but I see it growing over time as a fun way to meet other tenkara anglers. We at TenkaraGrasshopper Guide Services will be updating our availability for the coming year along with some dates for the TenkaraGrasshopper Educational Outreach program we offer. Fruity Pebbles are awesome for breakfast and they make your milk look funny afterwards! SUGAR, SUGAR, SUGAR!!! I am also going to be working on some kebari tying videos for you all. If there are any patterns you would like me to tie please feel free to make a comment here and I will do my best to oblige.
Having been able to attend the 2014 Tenkara Summit in Boulder, Colorado this year was an amazing experience and one that I am glad I did not miss. If you are interested you can read my review here. And in another exciting bit of news, Daniel Galhardo of Tenkara USA just announced that the Tenkara Summit 2015 will be held in Estes Park, Colorado. This should be an awesome experience as Rocky Mountain National Park is just a short drive away from where the Summit will be held. Stay tuned for more information by clicking the link above and also keep an eye out here as I will attempt to keep you up to date as well on this amazing event. Dang I love me some Fruity Pebbles, their magically delicious!
With cold weather also comes show season for many of the guide services and manufacturers of all things fishing and camping. There are a number of really cool fun events that can be attended around the country.
The shows I am looking forward to myself are The Fly Fishing Show which will be held at the Denver Merchandise Mart January 9-11, 2015. Ticket prices and hours are now available for you to take a look. I know there will be some very interesting events that will be going on and you will find some amazing vendors to peruse while you are walking the floor of the Denver Merchandise Mart.
The following weekend The International Sportsmen’s Expo will be running at the Denver Convention Center from January 15-18, 2015. This is a huge show has everything from hunting lodges to fly rod manufacturer presenters. Walking the floor of this event in 2014 was a lot of fun and something I will not pass up in the future. I know from last years show I found some products that could be used for the tenkara angler including a tenkara rod manufacturer. Should be interesting to see what this year brings as tenkara continues to gain a foothold in the outdoor industry.
Two weekends of shows can be a bit overwhelming but so much fun and interesting all at the same time. I cannot tell you which one to attend if you do not wish to go to both venues, but I will say that walking the floor of either will be a good choice. Bacon makes everything taste better!
With so many things on the agenda for TenkaraGrasshopper.com the rest of this year and into the beginning of next year there will be some pretty significant opportunities to get much more from the site than in the past. I wonder if bacon would make oatmeal easier to eat? Keep an eye out for some of the current changes to drop here pretty soon.
In closing, keep those lines tight and try to keep a your flies out of the trees at least until next summer, or get in some quality time behind the vise and tie a bunch of kebari and stockpile as much as you can.
